The Old Fox

The Old Fox was built in 1892 and refurbished during the development of the Arcadian. The pub was designed by James & Lister Lea, architects based in Birmingham who designed many public houses in the area. The firm operated from 1846 but merged with Bruton Knowles in 2001.

This is a good city centre pub with real ale. Whilst masquerading as a quiet traditional pub in the afternoons and early evening, it can get very busy later on. There is a bar and lounge bar, both with a good atmosphere and friendly staff. It is situated just opposite the Hippodrome in Hurst Street.

With its colourful hanging baskets and Victorian interior, it is different to the more brash and modern pubs nearby. You tend to find a slighly older and more mature clientele here. You can relax in comfortable chairs and admire the Victorian surroundings.
