Ambulance Trust
The West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust is the second largest ambulance service in the UK. The organisation is one of the most consistent and high performing of the regional trusts having been awarded 'Ambulance Service of the Year' for 2007 and 2008.
The WMAS employs over 3,500 staff and handles 450,000 emergency calls very year. The area covered includes Hereford & Worcester, Coventry & Warwickshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire and Birmingham and the Black Country. This is a geographical area of around 5,000 square miles with a population of 5.3 million.
With 63 ambulance stations and over 800 vehicles, it is one of 12 Ambulance Trusts in England and it is part of the NHS from which is receives direct funding.
